Pemberton kitchens have a particular brief: long sightlines to the valley, Mount Currie outside the window, and the kind of working-home honesty that comes with living on an acreage. The kitchen has to earn the view, not compete with it. It also has to cook, and cook well, for the kind of family that ends up here. Our Sunstone kitchen on the bench above the valley won the 2026 Western Living Design 25 in the Mountain Modern category — the thinking below is drawn directly from that work.

What Pemberton kitchens need to do differently

Open sightlines to Mount Currie. Long counters that absorb family and guests alike. Durable stone that handles agricultural weekends. A palette that reads against green summer valleys and white winter ones. The Sea-to-Sky as a whole has these requirements, but Pemberton — with its wider horizons and farmhouse rhythm — pushes them further than either Whistler or Squamish.

The Sunstone playbook

Sunstone set a template we now reach for on most Pemberton kitchens: dark stone waterfall island, Pacific Northwest oak cabinetry with real grain, unlacquered brass hardware, and an asymmetrical fluted fireplace built into the kitchen wall as an architectural hearth. Exposed shelves hold the everyday. A hidden pantry absorbs the rest. The kitchen is the heart of the house without announcing itself as the hero.

Working with Pemberton builders and millworkers

We have long relationships with Sea-to-Sky builders and millworkers who do the best work in this corridor. Williams Joinery fabricated the Sunstone millwork. Dorgelo by Design built the home. Both are based in the corridor and work on our Pemberton, Whistler, and Squamish projects regularly.

Budget range for a Pemberton kitchen

Design fee: typically $25K–$65K for a Pemberton kitchen at the scale we work on. Full build + finish: $180K–$400K+ depending on stone, millwork, appliances, and scope. We'll scope transparently after a first meeting. See our cost guide for more detail.

FAQ

Common questions.

Are you the studio that designed Sunstone?
Yes. Sunstone, the Mountain Modern kitchen on the bench above the Pemberton valley, won Western Living Design 25 in 2026. It was fully designed by LRD Studio — kitchen, millwork, material palette, and lighting. Photography by Darby Magill.
Do you only do Pemberton kitchens in Mountain Modern?
No. Mountain Modern is our most-used register in the valley, but the brief is always driven by the client. If a Pemberton farmhouse wants a different voice, we design to that voice.
How long does a Pemberton kitchen take from kickoff?
Design phase: 4–6 months. Millwork fabrication: 3–4 months. Site install and finish: 2–3 months. Start-to-install typically 9–12 months.
Can you also design the adjacent living and dining rooms?
Almost always recommended. Kitchens in this valley don't live alone — they share sightlines with the living room, the dining room, and often the primary suite. Designing the whole ground floor at once usually costs less per sq ft than returning for phase two.

Let’s talk about how your family lives.

Every project starts with a conversation about who you are and how you actually live.
